LONG VIEW FIRE CREW SAVES
FAMILY PET
LONG VIEW - February 21, 2008 -  Long View Fire
Department responded to a late morning residential
structure fire on February 21. As fire fighters made their way
into the house, they found the family's dog inside, still alive
but barely breathing. Personnel quickly removed the pet
from the structure and placed it on oxygen.

ATTAIN EMT CERTIFICATION
LONG VIEW - March 20, 2008 -  
Three personnel of Long View
Fire Department were recently
certified as Emergency Medical
Technicians by the
North
Carolina Office of EMS. Fire
fighters Barry Sigmon, Laura
Teague and Scott Teague
successfully passed the state
exam on March 14, bringing the
department's number of certified
EMTs to 18.  
Emergency Medical Technicians are trained to provide
basic life support treatment which involves stabilizing a
patient until advanced medical care can be administered.
Certification is awarded after the candidate completes a
class consisting of over 150 hours of combined classroom
and clinical work and a state evaluation comprised of
practical skills tests and a written exam. EMTs are trained
to handle a variety of medical emergencies including
cardiac arrests, respiratory distress, traumatic injuries and
more.
